About the Sigma 50mm ART
Before we talk about the Sigma 50mm ART, lets talk about the company. When Sigma was mentioned a few years back, there really wasn’t anything fancy about the company. The lenses looked like typically 3rd party lenses and the optics were… ok to say the least. Sigma had a little make over and what a change the company has made over the years. Not only was the build quality stepped up but so was their optics game and they are offically here to complete for the stop spot. It’s almost as if they were hanging around the block with Zeiss.
The Sigma 50mm Art lens is one of those lenses that is just killer all around. This lens is as good if not better than the Canon 50mm 1.2 and Nikon 1.4. The lens feels, as it should, like a high dollar professional lens.
The 50mm focal length is a great general purpose focal length. On a crop sensor camera, you can expect around a 80mm focal length which is pretty much the ideal length for portraits.
Like all of Sigma’s ART series lenses, this lens has the Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM), floating internal focusing system, SLD and FLD Glass elements. Yeah it’s nerdy tech talk but they’re all good things! As mentioned above, this lens can be used on Full Frame and Crop-Sensor cameras.
If you’re after a great low light performing lens, the Sigma 50mm Art is one of the best out there.
