Q&A: HRPN Cover Photo Winner February 2025
Tell us a little about yourself! Where are you from, and how did you get into photography?
Left northern VA after HS graduation, came to VB and fell in love with the beach. Pretty much have always had a camera in hand…..going back as far as as 110 film and realizing I was addicted.
What inspired you to capture the photo you submitted for this contest?
The submitted shot was taken during a sunrise yoga / SUP class and it was a “gotta have” shot. Sunrises in VB always bring something great to the table.
Can you share any details about how you took the winning photo? (Camera, settings, location, timing, etc.)
I was shooting from Croatan near the mermaid statue. at Rudee Inlet. Just waiting…. when I saw the dog on the board.
Do you have a favorite type of photography (landscape, portrait, wildlife, etc.)? If so, what draws you to it?
I shoot mostly events around Hampton Roads. Harborfest, ECSC, Peanut Festival, Wine Festivals, Jackalope Fest, Polar Plunge, Surfer’s Healing, …to name a few.
What’s one piece of photography advice you would give to others in the group?
Its backlit and shadow photography can be tough

What’s your favorite piece of photography gear or editing tool, and why?
I use Lightroom for editing and shoot with the Nikon d750. A variety of lens but my go to is the Nikon 24-70.
Do you have a photography goal or dream project you’d love to achieve?
Dream project….VW bus and start driving. There’s so much I’ve already seen but still so much more waiting for me and my camera.
